More MUNGO 2s for German military

MUNICH, Germany, Sept. 22 (UPI) -- German military vehicle maker Krauss-Maffei Wegmann has received an order from the German army for more MUNGO 2 multipurpose vehicles.

The 31 vehicles will be used by the service's Special Operations Division and brings the number of MUNGO 2s ordered by the German military to more than 400.

The first three pre-series prototypes were delivered and qualified technically and tactically in an operational test. The delivery of the other vehicles will be completed through 2013.

The MUNGO 2 was specifically developed for transportation on a CH-53 transport helicopter and with its universal hydraulics and transport system is particularly suitable for the mission-specific transport of munitions, fuel, maintenance and NBC decontamination equipment.

It is also protected against ballistic, mine and IED threats.

KMW has delivered more than 400 MUNGO in three different versions -- troop transporters, multi-purpose vehicles and large space cabins -- to the German army.

KMW gave no details as to the value of the contract or the delivery schedule involved.
