PRINCETON, N.J., Aug. 3 (UPI) -- A radiological detection capability has been demonstrated on an undersea unmanned vehicle by a New Jersey company.
Princeton Security Technologies, Inc. said its radiological isotope identification hardware was fully demonstrated on the iRobot 1KA Seaglider UUV.
The 1KA Seaglider measures temperature, salinity and other quantities in the ocean and sends back data using global satellite telemetry. More than 135 Seaglider UUVs have been delivered to customers worldwide, including the U.S. Navy, government agencies and organizations.
The integration of PSGY's radiological isotope identification hardware to Seaglider gives the UUV nuclear detection capabilities.
"Many nuclear power plants are located along coastlines because they are highly water-intensive," states Alex Palm, marketing vice president for Princeton Security Technologies.
"Our technology, in concert with Seaglider, provides the ability to monitor our oceans for increased levels of radiation. This is an important capability given recent world events."
Princeton Security Technologies, through its wholly owned subsidiary Princeton Gamma-Tech Instruments Inc. is a supplier of X-ray and gamma-ray detectors, spectroscopy systems, radiation detection area monitors and radioactive radioisotope identifier products.
