Britain receives final Warthog

LONDON, July 20 (UPI) -- ST Kinetics of Singapore and Thales UK have delivered the final Warthog vehicle to Britain under a $241.5 million urgent operational contract.

The vehicle delivered to the Ministry of Defense was a troop-carrying variant customized from the Bronco all-terrain track carrier.

For this contract Thales UK was the main partner, responsible for the integration of British specialist electronic countermeasure equipment and communication systems. Other British companies were involved in the supply of subsystems, such as bar armor and armored glass.

ST Kinetics, a division of Singapore Technologies Engineering Ltd., is the manufacturer of the Bronco and Warthog derivative.

Warthog variants include the troop carrier, ambulance, command and repair and recovery and are used by British forces in Afghanistan.

The companies said the fact that the Warthog program was successfully delivered within a very challenging delivery schedule bears testimony to the close working relationship that the ST Kinetics-Thales UK partnership has with the Ministry's Warthog Integrated Project Team.

"We are proud to have been involved in the timely delivery of Warthog into theater, where it is protecting the lives of our troops on a daily basis," said Victor Chavez, chief executive of Thales UK. "This was only made possible through the very close cooperation from all partners and is an excellent example of what we can achieve when we pull together."
