Navy picks GenDyn for program support

GROTON, Conn., July 13 (UPI) -- The U.S. Navy has awarded General Dynamics Electric Boat a contract modification for continued engineering and technical services, the company announced.

The contract modification includes concept studies and design in support of the Common Missile Compartment that is under development for Britain's Successor ballistic-missile submarine and the U.S. Navy's Ohio replacement submarine.

The value of the contract modification is $16 million, General Dynamics said.

The new award modifies a $76 million contract that was announced in December 2008. That award was for engineering, technical services, concept studies and design of a Common Missile Compartment for the next-generation ballistic missile submarines that are being developed for the British navy and the U.S. Navy.

General Dynamics Electric Boat said if all options are exercised and funded, the overall contract would have a value of more than $651 million.

This work will engage Electric Boat's engineering and design organization, which works on all facets of the submarine life cycle.
