Firms finalize support for trainer planes

SINGAPORE, June 27 (UPI) -- Singapore's ST Aerospace and Alenia Aermacchi of Italy have finalized two agreements for the logistics support of 12 M346 aircraft.

The agreements, covering a period of 20 years, are worth $242.5 million.

The Republic of Singapore Air Force had awarded ST Aerospace the contract to procure 12 M346 aircraft and ground based training system for the RSAF fighter pilot training in Cazaux, France, last year.

The first agreement is for the joint management of the M346 suppliers between ST Aerospace and Alenia Aermacchi. This covers after-sales support, which includes spare parts provisioning, and repair and overhaul services, with sharing of risks, sales and profits between the two partners.

The other agreement is for Alenia Aermacchi's engineering support, program and contract management, and field support services for the aircraft fleet.

ST Aerospace in 2008 teamed with Alenia Aermacchi and Boeing to jointly bid the M346 aircraft for the RSAF Advanced Jet Trainer replacement program.

ST Aerospace currently provides a full spectrum of maintenance, engineering and logistics support -- covering flight line operations, aircraft, engines and component maintenance, engineering services, inventory and warehouse management -- on the current fleet of advanced jet trainers.
