Brazil signs agreement for helicopters

PARIS, June 21 (UPI) -- U.S. company Sikorsky Aircraft Corp. announced at the Paris Air Show that the Brazilian navy signed an agreement for two more of its S-70B helicopters.

The agreement was signed with the U.S. government via the Foreign Military Sales process.

The Brazilian navy last year contracted for four Sikorsky S-70B aircraft -- also through the FMS system -- with deliveries starting in December and continuing through the first quarter of 2012.

Sikorsky said it expects contract finalization for the additional two multi-role aircraft in 2012.

"The Brazilian navy has relied on Sikorsky aircraft for decades, including the venerable H-3 Sea King helicopters dating to the 1960s," said Sikorsky Vice President for International Military Business John Pacelli. "We thank the navy sincerely for its continuing commitment to our products."

The twin-engine helicopter has a cruise speed of 146 knots and a maximum gross weight of 21,884 pounds.
