BAE wins surveillance contract

ARLINGTON, Va., June 10 (UPI) -- Virginia's BAE Systems Electronics Intelligence and Support is developing a system able to track thousands of people and vehicles over a large-area battlefield.

Under the terms of an $11.4 million contract BAE Systems Electronics, Intelligence and Support division is developing an airborne processing and sensor system capable of tracking 20,000 or more infantry soldiers and combat vehicles over wide areas.

The contract was awarded by officials of the U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio, militaryaerospace.com Web site reported Friday.

Under the terms of the contract BAE Systems Electronics, Intelligence and Support division will also integrate tracking hardware, new-generation, wide-area, motion-imaging sensor-analysis technology and communications links to a ground station, as well as provide data storage facilities, chipping, dissemination and processing control.

BAE Systems Electronics, Intelligence and Support engineers also will develop ground processing software to help analyze WAMI downlink video and related data.

The U.S. Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, oversees most advanced WAMI technology research for the military as part of DARPA's programs, such as the Persistent Stare Exploitation and Analysis System program.
