Typhoon production celebrated

WARTON, England, May 27 (UPI) -- BAE Systems in Britain reports that it has celebrated the completion of its 100th Typhoon multi-role combat aircraft.

As part of the Eurofighter Typhoon consortium, BAE Systems is responsible for the production of key aircraft parts, including the front fuselage, foreplanes, windshield and canopy, as well as carrying out the final assembly of all U.K. Typhoons.

"We're delighted to have achieved this major milestone," said Tom Fillingham, BAE Systems Aircraft Programs director. "Together with the U.K. Ministry of Defense and the (British air force), we continue our commitment to enhance and upgrade the aircraft's capabilities.

"This work known as the Typhoon Future Capability Upgrade program is vital to the future success of the aircraft both in the U.K. and for current and potential customers worldwide."

Eurofighter Jagdflugzeug GmbH manages the Typhoon program on behalf of Eurofighter partner companies: Alenia Aeronautica, BAE Systems and Cassidian in Spain and Germany.

More than 260 aircraft have been delivered to the air forces of the four partner nations and to customers.
