Sensis completes radar project for Canada

EAST SYRACUSE, N.Y., March 9 (UPI) -- Surveillance radar at Canada's military air transport operations hub has been modernized by Sensis Corp. of New York.

The company said its Area Surveillance Radar solution has been formally accepted and is commissioned and in use by the Canadian defense department.

The fully redundant ASR-3 radar modernization solution features a high performance signal/data processor and solid state L-band transmitter replacement along with six level National Weather Service weather data processing capability embedded in the software.

The Sensis system extends the service life of 8 Wing/Canadian Forces Base Trenton's radar by a minimum of 15 years while reducing life-cycle, maintenance and operating costs, it said.

"The successful commissioning of the modernization program once again demonstrates that Sensis modernization solutions meet the stringent operating requirements demanded by our customers," said Erik Smith, general manager of Sensis Defense and Security Systems.

Sensis' commercial-off-the-shelf radar modernization solution for the ASR-3 is based on a proven open architecture hardware and software platform that is easily scalable and has been implemented on similar L and S band Air Surveillance and Air Defense radars around the world.

Sensis said the solution also delivers wind farm clutter mitigation and a potential upgrade path to fuse multilateration-based secondary surveillance systems.
