PHILADELPHIA, Feb. 15 (UPI) -- McKean Defense Group LLC has been tasked with providing life-cycle maintenance engineering strategies and planning support for U.S. Navy's surface ships.
McKean, which has headquarters in Pennsylvania, said the contract from the U.S. Naval Sea Systems Command is an unrestricted, single award cost-plus task order to support the newly formed U.S. Navy Surface Maintenance Engineering Planning Program organization.
The contract is valued at $89 million, with a period of performance totaling five years.
"McKean and several team members have been on the forefront of SURFMEPP support, spanning back to the analysis that ultimately prompted the creation of this vital organization," said Larry Burrill, president of Naval Engineering at McKean. "On top of this strong core, McKean selected additional industry leaders equally committed to applying cross-enterprise solutions responsive to the varied stakeholders SURFMEPP serves."
McKean's teammates include Alion Science and Technologies, Inc., American Systems Corp., Valkyrie Enterprises, CACI, CSC, Dell Services Federal Government, VSE Corp. and others.
SURFMEPP is responsible for providing a comprehensive life-cycle management plan for the Navy's surface fleet. Its mission-critical focus is on effective sustainment of the fleet to ensure mission requirements are met, and the expected service life of the vessels is attained.
This is the first contract released to support the new command.
