LONDON, Ontario, Jan. 5 (UPI) -- General Dynamics Land Systems Canada will produce 82 light-armored vehicles under a $138 million U.S. Army contract.
The order, from the Army's TACOM Life Cycle Management Command, is for a Foreign Military Sale. The identity of the customer receiving the vehicles wasn't disclosed. Delivery of the vehicles, however, will begin in January 2012.
"This order underscores the continued relevance of these proven combat vehicles in modern military forces," Sridhar Sridharan, senior vice president of General Dynamics Land Systems-Canada said. "We are pleased to be working once again with TACOM in support of their Foreign Military Sales program."
The vehicles provided under the contract will be the LAV II version, a 300-horsepower 8x8 vehicle with a gross vehicle weight of up to 32,000 pounds.
Northrop said the vehicles will be produced in four variants.
General Dynamics Land Systems, the Canadian company's parent corporation, is a business unit of General Dynamics of the United States.
