Conference on WMD announced

NEW YORK, Nov. 19 (UPI) -- The Institute for Defense and Government Advancement plans on having its annual CBRNE Defense Summit in February in Washington.

The organization said the meeting on chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear enhanced explosive weapons will provide attendees with a forum to better understand how to prevent, detect, protect and respond to CBRNE threats.

Attendees will hear the latest initiatives in response, preparedness, incident management, threat reduction, advanced technologies, interoperability and medical countermeasures, IDGA said.

"With the recent developments in CBRNE, this event seems extremely topical," event producer Nicole Bacani said. "We've already received tremendous response from the community -- I think the caliber of our speaker roster speaks to that."

Among confirmed speakers are Steve Henry, SES, deputy assistant to the secretary of defense for nuclear matters; Gerald Kovacs, director, division of CBRN countermeasures, biomedical advanced research and development authority; U.S. Air Force Brig. Gen. Jonathan Treacy, commander, Joint Task Force Civil Support , USNORTHCOM; U.S. Army Col. Thomas Cartledge, chief of staff, 20th Support Command; Robert Hooks, deputy assistant secretary for WMD and biodefense, Office of Health Affairs, Department of Homeland Security.

The meeting is scheduled for Feb.14-16. The venue has yet to be announced.
