Sweden chooses Patria vehicles

HELSINKI, Finland, Aug. 17 (UPI) -- Patria Land and Armament Oyj of Finland has won a $336 million contract from Sweden's Defense Materiel Administration for 113 armored modular vehicles.

It said it has committed to an offset agreement covering 100 percent of the program's costs and that Swedish subcontractors will provide protection, automotive, suspension, propulsion and electronic systems for the vehicles.

Sweden will use the AMVs as armored personnel carriers.

The vehicles will replace the tracked vehicles the Swedish army currently uses, including the Swedish produced PBV302, and Hagglunds BV206(S) and Russian origin MT-LB.

Patria Land and Armament said the 113 AMVs would be assembled in Finland. First deliveries would occur in late 2013.

Patria's AMV has been in production since 2004. More than 1,500 AMVs have been delivered or are on order, the company said.

AMVs are currently in service with the Finnish and Polish armies, which are operating them in Afghanistan, Patria said. Croatia, which has ordered 124 AMVs, will become the third operator of the vehicles in 2012.
