Kopin to provide display tech for Army TWS

TAUNTON, Mass., June 10 (UPI) -- Kopin Corp. has received a new contract to support the U.S. Army's Thermal Weapon Sight program with its display module solutions.

The new $16 million follow-on order is for Kopin's 640M display module technologies. The display includes the company's CyberDisplay 640M LCD (liquid crystal display) micro-display system that will support the Army's TWS program.

Kopin says the 640M display technology will be deployed with the Army's light, medium and heavy thermal weapon sights to support mobile military applications.

Kopin President and Chief Executive Officer John Fan said the 640M displays were selected by the Army for the technology's reliability which is a "result of (Kopin's) extensive testing including shock and thermal cycling."

The order will be manufactured at the company's Massachusetts facility and deliveries are expected to begin in September.
