ROCHESTER, N.Y., May 28 (UPI) -- The U.S. Defense Department has awarded a follow-on contact to Harris Corp. for the delivery of additional tactical radio systems for use with armored vehicles.
New York's Harris will deliver its Falcon III AN/PRC-152(C) multiband handheld radios to support the Defense Department's mine-resistant, ambush-protected all terrain vehicle program.
The Harris Falcon III, a U.S. military Joint Tactical Radio System-approved technology, will be used in M-ATVs deployed to support operations in Afghanistan. The $27 million contract also includes delivery of AN/VRC-110 vehicular amplifier adapter systems.
With the combined Falcon III AN/PRC-152(C) and AN/VRC-110 systems, the radio technologies will be directly integrated with the M-ATVs but capable of being detached for dismounted operations in the field while remaining connected to the defense network.
Harris said in a release announcing the follow-on contract that the AN/PRC-152(C) is "the most widely fielded Joint Tactical Radio System-approved handheld radio with more than 100,000 units deployed."
The Harris Falcon platform is additionally capable being easily upgraded as modernizations are developed increasing the technology's lifecycle.
