You can now download, watch Netflix shows offline

LOS GATOS, Calif., Nov. 30 (UPI) -- Netflix customers can now download film and televisions shows and watch them on mobile devices while offline, the company announced Wednesday.

"While many members enjoy watching Netflix at home, we've often heard they also want to continue their Stranger Things binge while on airplanes and other places where Internet is expensive or limited," Eddy Wu, director of Product Innovation, for Netflix wrote Wednesday.

Many series and movies are already available for download, including Orange is The New Black, Narcos and The Crown, and more will be available, Wu said.

The new feature is included in all plans for phones and tablets on Android and iOS. The service is not available yet for the desktop.

Some licensed shows and movies aren't available offline.

Netflix users need to update their app to the most recent version in order to use the new feature. Then, they can click the download button on the details page for a film or TV series. They then can watch it later without an Internet connection.

A new category on the Netflix app's side menu, called "Available for Download," displays all the programs available offline. Also, an arrow next to the title indicates if it can be downloaded.

Netflix, on its help page. said users should delete downloaded titles before adding new content because some licensing agreements limit the number of titles they can have downloaded at a time.

Netflix is making the change as Amazon's Prime video service added the offline feature last year.
