KYOTO, Japan, April 27 (UPI) -- Nintendo's new gaming console, codenamed the NX, will launch in March 2017.

"For our dedicated video game platform business, Nintendo is currently developing a gaming platform codenamed 'NX' with a brand-new concept," the company said Wednesday in their latest financial report.

"NX will be launched in March 2017 globally," they continued.

The report offered no other clarification as to what the new platform might offer. More information regarding NX will come later this year.

Nintendo also confirmed that the NX would not be shown during the video game industry's biggest event, the annual Electronic Gaming Expo in June. Instead, the company's long-delayed next installment in their storied Legend of Zelda series for Wii U will take center stage at the event as the only playable title.

So far, Zelda for Wii U is the only confirmed title for the NX as it will launch simultaneously on both platforms in 2017.
