John Oliver shows why robot store clerks are a bad idea

"[Robots] don’t realize that home improvement stores are a lethal combination of everything that can ruin a relationship: spending money, reconciling tastes, long-term planning, and florescent lighting," said Oliver.

NEW YORK, Nov. 3 (UPI) -- John Oliver tried to prove that robot assistants at Lowe's are a terrible idea on Last Week Tonight by filming a spoof commercial with Nick Offerman.

He argued that while robots can be helpful in locating items, they cannot prevent the inevitable relationship-ending fights that begin when shopping in a home improvement store.

"[Robots] don't realize that home improvement stores are a lethal combination of everything that can ruin a relationship: spending money, reconciling tastes, long-term planning, and florescent lighting," said Oliver.

In addition to Offerman, Oliver enlisted the help of H. Jon Benjamin and Sarah Baker to show how shop assistants keep couples together through the difficult process of home improvement.
