Yamaha recalls 1,300 off-road motorcycles

WASHINGTON, Feb. 26 (UPI) -- U.S. regulators announced a voluntary recall of 1,300 Yamaha off-road motorcycles due to problems with drive chains.

Drive chains on 2014 Yamaha competition off-road motorcycles with model numbers YZ250FEL, YZ250FEW, YZ450FEL and YZ450FEW. YZ250F or YZ450F can detach, the Consumer Product Safety Commission reported.

The motorcycles have 250 or 450 printed on the left and right side panels.

The vehicle identification number, found on the frame of the steering stem, has E in the 10th position, which indicated it is a model year 2014.product.

Consumers were advised to stop using the motorcycles and contact Yamaha Motor Corp. USA of Cypress, Calif., for a free repair.

The motorcycles were imported from Japan and sold from December 2013 through January 2014 for about $8,000.
