Layoffs coming at Disney Interactive?

BURBANK, Calif., Feb. 3 (UPI) -- Walt Disney Co. is reportedly planning more layoffs at Disney Interactive, which is responsible for games and digital media for the entertainment giant.

The Wall Street Journal reported Monday several hundred layoffs are expected in the next round, to be announced after the company reports its quarterly results Wednesday.

Under California law, Disney must report impending layoffs to the state at least 60 days in advance. The state Employment Development Department said no such notice had been given as of Monday, the Los Angeles Times said.

The interactive subsidiary reported a profitable fourth quarter last year, $16 million. But it lost $87 million in the fiscal year, which ended Sept. 28.

"Disney Infinity," which was released in August, has been a big success, with 3 million sold.

In January 2013 Disney closed Junction Point Studios in Austin, Texas. It shut down Propaganda Games in 2011.
