Recall on Coby 32 inch televisions extended

WASHINGTON, Jan. 10 (UPI) -- U.S. regulators extended a recall of 32-inch flat screen Coby televisions Friday, adding three new retailers to a previous recall.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission said the televisions, which can catch fire and ignite nearby items, was now under recall at the eleven retailers, including:

-- Toys R Us: 800-869-7787

The recall involves televisions with model number TFTV3229 and serial numbers beginning with LG and that have M07 or M10 in the 9th, 10th and 11th position of the serial number.

About 8,900 television sets are under recall. They were sold nationwide from August 2011 through November 2013 for between $170 and $260.

The manufacturer, Coby USA is now out of business.

Consumers were advised to unplug the televisions and contact the appropriate retailer for instructions on a remedy, which will be in the form of a refund, store credit, gift card or replacement television. The solutions offered are up to each retailer, the regulator said.
