Crude oil overtakes $100 per barrel

NEW YORK, Dec. 27 (UPI) -- Crude oil prices moved slightly higher on the New York Mercantile Exchange Friday, inching past $100 per barrel.

With the Dow Jones industrial average and the Standard & Poor's 500 index poised to close out the year at record highs, West Texas Intermediate crude oil added 64 cents to $100.19 per barrel.

Reformulated gasoline blendstock for January shed 1 cent to $2.819 a gallon.

January heating oil gained 2.87 cents to $3.1235 a gallon while natural gas dropped 3 cents to $4.41 per million British thermal units.

The national average price of unleaded regular gasoline rose at the pump, climbing to $3.283 a gallon from Thursday's $3.268, the AAA Daily Fuel Gauge Report said.
