OTTAWA, Dec. 20 (UPI) -- The consumer price index in Canada rose 0.9 percent in the 12 months to November, Statistics Canada said Friday.
November was the seventh month out of the past 13 in which prices consumers pay for goods and services rose less than 1 percent on a year-over-year basis, StatsCan said.
Inflation was bumped up primarily by a 2.3 percent gain from November 2012 in energy prices, including those for natural gas, fuel oil and gasoline. That jump followed a 1.6 percent decline in energy prices in the 12 months ending in October.
November prices for electricity were up 5.1 percent from November 2012, with the largest gain in the province of Ontario, where prices rose 8.1 percent.
Prices were less than 1 percent lower in the categories of clothing and health and personal care products, StatsCan said.
