Construction production slips in Europe

BRUSSELS, Nov. 19 (UPI) -- Construction production dropped 1.3 percent in the eurozone and the European Union from August to September, Eurostat said Tuesday.

On a 12-month basis, construction spending slipped 0.2 percent in both the eurozone and rose 0.2 percent in the EU, the data agency said.

Since September 2012, construction fell in nine member states, was stable in Slovakia and rose in five, Eurostat said. In the remaining 13 states, data was unavailable.

Among states where data was available, construction production rose highest in Hungary, up 9.3 percent, Spain, up 6.1 percent and Britain, up 4.9 percent.

The sharpest declines were in Portugal, the Czech Republic and Slovenia with drops of 14.9 percent, 11.8 percent and 7.9 percent, respectively.
