Industrial production up modestly in Britain

LONDON, Nov. 6 (UPI) -- Industrial production rose in Great Britain from the second quarter to the third, increasing a modest 0.6 percent, the national data office said Wednesday.

On a seasonally adjusted basis, manufacturing output rose 0.9 percent quarter to quarter, "by far the largest contributor to quarterly growth in production," the Office for National Statistics said.

Production rose 2.2 percent September 2012 to September 2013, reflecting gains of 11.5 percent in mining and quarrying, 0.8 percent in manufacturing, and 7.1 percent in water supply, sewage and waste management, but a 3.4 percent drop in electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning, the agency said.

From August to September, pharmaceutical products, manufacture of transportation equipment and computer, electronic and optical products set the pace in the manufacturing sector, the Office of National Statistics said.
