Retail sales receipts slide in week

NEW YORK, Nov. 5 (UPI) -- U.S. retail receipts at chain stores fell 0.6 percent in the week ending Saturday, the second consecutive weekly drop, a retail trade group said Tuesday.

"October ends on a down note," the International Council of Shopping Centers said in its weekly ICSC/Goldman Sachs Chain Store Sales Index.

From the same week of 2012, sales rose "a sluggish 1.9 percent," the trade group said.

ICSC vice president of research and Chief Economist Michael Niemira said results for the week were mixed across the industry with gains at drug stores, department stores, wholesale clubs and furniture outlets. Business "was weaker for grocery stores, apparel stores, discounters, dollar stores and electronic stores," Niemira said.
