CEO says Alfa Romeo production could move out of Italy

TURIN, Italy, July 30 (UPI) -- The top executive at Italian automaker Fiat, unhappy with labor conditions in Italy, said Alfa Romeo sports car production could be moved elsewhere.

"We have the necessary alternatives to achieve Alfa anywhere in the world," Chief Executive Officer Sergio Marchionne said.

The Italian news agency ANSA reported Tuesday Marchionne, soon after a court ruling was decided in favor of the metalworkers' union, complained that "conditions in industrial Italy remain impossible."

Fiat said last week that a court ruling in favor of the FIOM trade union could affect the company's "strategies in Italy."

Italy's Constitutional Court ruled FIOM could be represented in Fiat's company union RSA despite not having a signed contract with Fiat in place.
