WASHINGTON, July 15 (UPI) -- Ford Motor Co. is recalling more than 12,500 Explorer, Taurus and Lincoln MKS vehicles, due to faulty child safety door locks, U.S. regulators said..
The recall involves model year 2013 Explorer, Taurus and Lincoln MKS vehicles made from Nov. 29 through Dec. 12, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said Monday.
The watchdog agency said in a statement that "the child safety locks may change from an activated position to a deactivated position without notice."
If the mechanism fails to operate properly, a child could open the door from the inside, posing a dangerous situation to the child.
Ford said it would notify dealers and have the safety locks tested. If necessary, the locks will be replaced free of charge.
