WASHINGTON, July 12 (UPI) -- U.S. producer prices for finished goods rose 0.8 percent in June on a seasonally adjusted basis, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported Friday.
On a 12-month unadjusted basis, prices were up 1.5 percent in May after falling 0.7 percent and 0.6 percent in March and April, respectively.
In June, prices paid to producers for food rose 0.2 percent, while prices for energy rose 2.9 percent. Taking food and energy out of the equation and prices rose 0.2 percent, the bureau said.
A 2.9 percent rise in finished energy goods was responsible for much of the overall inflation for finished products. Core prices for finished goods -- which excludes food and energy items -- and food prices for finished goods both rose 0.2 percent, which also contributed to the price inflation.
