Eurozone's annual CPI at 1.4 percent

BRUSSELS, June 14 (UPI) -- The annual inflation rate rose from 1.2 percent to 1.4 percent April to May in the 17-member eurozone, Eurostat said Friday.

The consumer price index, released by the European Commission's data agency, matched Eurostat's flash estimate, which was released two weeks ago.

The inflation rate a year earlier stood at 2.4 percent. From April, prices rose 0.1 percent, the agency said.

For the 27-member European Union, which includes the eurozone, annual inflation is at 1.6 percent, while month-to-month prices gained 0.1 percent.

A year earlier for the EU, the annual rate was 2.6 percent.

The highest annual rate in may was in Romania with the CPI at 4.4 percent. The lowest rate posted was in Greece, where the annual CPI stands at minus 0.3 percent.
