OTTAWA, June 5 (UPI) -- The value of building projects issued permits for construction in Canada rose 10.5 percent from March to April, Statistics Canada reported Wednesday.

April was the fourth consecutive month of increases, the data agency said.

Much of the increase in April -- which put construction intentions at a value of $7 billion -- was due to higher construction intentions for multifamily buildings in Ontario, British Columbia and Quebec, the agency said.

The value of construction intentions for multifamily buildings rose 51.9 percent to $2.1 billion.

The value of industrial projects issued permits fell 5.3 percent to $450 million after two consecutive months of gains. The value of commercial construction projects given the go-ahead in the month rose 15.8 percent to $1.4 billion, the agency said.
