US Airways CEO: No need to rush a merger

FORT WORTH, Texas, July 5 (UPI) -- US Airways Chief Executive Officer Doug Parker said the company could bide its time in its bid to merge with bankrupt U.S. rival American Airlines.

"So long as we are given a fair chance to present our superior alternative in time to merge with AMR upon their emergence from bankruptcy," Parker wrote in a note to employees. "There is certainly no urgency for us to merge," the note said.

The Fort-Worth (Texas) Star Telegram reported Thursday that Parker expects curiosity focused on a potential merger will continue.

"The speculation and attention around this potential merger will continue for at least several more months and we need to be aware of that," the note to employees said.
