Crude oil dips under $87

NEW YORK, May 31 (UPI) -- Oil prices slipped under $87 per barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange as a delayed stockpile report said crude oil inventories rose in the week.

The Energy Information Administration said U.S. inventories rose by 2.2 million to 384.7 million in the week ending Friday -- the report a day late due to the Memorial Day holiday.

In New York, the price of West Texas Intermediate for July delivery shed $1.31 to $86.51 per barrel, near the low for the year.

Natural gas for June delivery gave up 1.2 cents to $2.41 per million British thermal units.

Home heating oil added 1.93 cents to $2.7225 per gallon.

RBOB gasoline futures for July delivery were up 3.18 cents to $2.7545 per gallon.

At the pump, the national average price of unleaded gasoline dropped to $3.62 per gallon from Wednesday's $3.626, AAA said.
