WASHINGTON, April 18 (UPI) -- Air rifles that can fire with the safety switch on are being recalled by Ohio distributor Air Venturi, a consumer watchdog agency said.
Air Venturi of Warrensville Heights, Ohio, is recalling 100 Evanix Speed and Conquest Air Rifles, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said.
The rifles were made in South Korea and sold for about $1,800 at Air Venturi, Pyramyd Air, Top Airgun and Straight Shooters stores from January 2012 through March 2012, the commission said.
The recall involves Evanix Speed .177, .22 and .25 caliber rifles and Evanix Conquest .177, .22 and .25 caliber rifles.
The guns are pre-charged pneumatic air rifles powered by a compressed air cylinder.
An accidental firing of the rifle can result in injury or death, the commission said.
Consumers were advised to stop using the rifles and contact Air Venturi for a free repair.

The firm is providing free shipping boxes and will cover the cost of postage for rifles sent in for repair.
