Ceiling fans recalled

WASHINGTON, March 23 (UPI) -- Westinghouse Lighting Corp. of Philadelphia is recalling ceiling fans due to light bulbs that fail to meet federal guidelines, regulators said.

The fans are sold with two 60-watt light bulbs that can overheat or cause the fans to fail, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said in a statement.

Ceiling fans with 24-, 30- and 42-inch diameter blades are included in this recall. "Westinghouse" is printed on the fan's ceiling canopy.

The item number is printed on the fan's motor housing. The recall involves item numbers 72243, 78631, 72245, 78763, and 78764.

The ceiling fans, which were made in China, were sold nationwide from January 2011 through January 2012 for between $135 and $150.

Consumers were advised to stop using the recalled fans and contact Westinghouse Lighting for two free replacement 40-watt light bulbs.
