Oil prices rise on economic data

NEW YORK, March 13 (UPI) -- Crude oil prices stayed above $106 Tuesday in New York after the U.S. Commerce Department said retail sales rose in February.

Retail gained 1.1 percent in the month compared with January, an indication new jobs added to the economy are transferring over to gains for stores.

April delivery light sweet crude settled at $106.71 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange, up 37 cents. Home heating oil added 2.83 cents to $3.27.12 per gallon. Reformulated gasoline gained 3.16 cents to $3.335.46 per gallon.

Henry Hub natural gas prices shed 0.02 cents to $2.15 per million British thermal units.

The national average price of unleaded gasoline was $3.805 per gallon Tuesday, up from Monday's $3.801, AAA said.
