CHICAGO, March 10 (UPI) -- Chicago billionaire Kenneth Griffin said he was opposed to the Windy City allowing a casino to operate downtown.
"There is no great city in America that has a casino (downtown) and there's a reason for it," the Chicago Tribune quoted Griffin as saying.
"Casinos do not represent the values of a great city," he said.
"I spend way too much time thinking about politics these days," Griffin said, adding that he had written to Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn and Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel to express his opinion about a proposed downtown casino.
"Part of my sensitivity to these issues is that I now live in the middle of a hyper-regulated industry, where not only is government affecting how capital markets work, or how banks work, but (the government) is punishing savers," he said.
Forbes Magazine list Griffin as Chicago's second wealthiest man behind Tribune Co. Chairman Sam Zell, the newspaper said.
