February steadier for CEOs

CHICAGO, March 6 (UPI) -- February was a slightly steadier month for chief executive officers at U.S. firms, private research firm Challenger, Gray & Christmas said Tuesday.

In February, 104 CEOs announced their departures, compared with 123 in January, the firm said.

In February, 19 CEOs in the healthcare sector announced they were leaving, the most of any business group.

In part, healthcare tops the list, because there are a lot of healthcare firms. Employment in healthcare and social services includes 17 million people working for about 811,000 private sector businesses.

In February, 33 CEOs resigned, 20 retired, 13 stepped down and seven others found work in another company.

Three of the top executives lost their jobs in November due to a merger. Three others died.

One left due to health reasons and one left because of a scandal, data shows.
