Landscape Structures slides recalled

WASHINGTON, Feb. 21 (UPI) -- A voluntary recall of Slalom Glider playground slides has been issued due to a fall hazard, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said Tuesday.

Landscape Structures Inc., of Delano, Minn., is voluntarily recalling about 900 slides that lack a platform at the top and have no sides to the chute.

Children are intended to straddle the curvy, plastic slide, but the firm has received numerous reports of children falling off the apparatus.

Several of the reports have included descriptions of injuries to children.

The Slalom Glider is a distinctive 6-foot high playground slide made from molded plastic that has a tubular steel access ladder.

The slides are sold as a stand-alone item or as an attachment to other playground equipment.

The recalled slides have model numbers 156456 and 172627. They were sold in red, blue, tan, green, granite and white to schools and other facilities between January 2006 and December 2011 for about $2,300.

Consumers were advised to stop children from using the recalled gliders.

Consumers can contact Landscape Structures regarding instructions on how to remove the slide. Customers will be given the option of replacing the apparatus with another piece of playground equipment or receiving a refund or credit towards a future purchase.
