WASHINGTON, Feb. 10 (UPI) -- The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced a voluntary recall of Designs Direct rooster-themed lamps due to shock and fire risks.
About 2,000 Living Traditions 21-inch Rooster Lamps were imported from China by Designs Direct, of Covington, Ky., and sold exclusively at Fred's Inc. between October 2011 and November 2011 for about $20.
The watchdog agency said the electrical cord for the lamps can fray near the base, posing a fire or shock hazard to consumers.
The recall involves Living Traditions rooster-themed brown polyresin lamps with an off-white shade and a carved 9-inch rooster affixed to the base.
A label on the underside of the base reads "Distributed By Fred's Inc" and "SKU 61589."
Consumers were advised to stop using the recalled lamps and contact Designs Direct for a refund.
