OTTAWA, Jan. 13 (UPI) -- Increased exports and decreased imports put Canada's international trade balance at a $1.1 billion surplus in November, Statistics Canada said Friday.
On a monthly basis, total exports were up 3.2 percent to $40.1 billion while imports declined by 0.8 percent to $39 billion, the agency said.
"Canada's trade surplus with the United States increased from $3.5 billion in October to $4.6 billion in November," StatsCan said "Exports to the United States rose 1.9 percent to $28.6 billion on the strength of energy products.
"Imports from the United States declined 2 percent to $24 billion, largely the result of lower imports of automotive products."
Canada's trade deficit with countries other than the United States decreased to $3.5 billion from $4 billion on a monthly basis.
Exports to those countries rose 6.7 percent to $11.5 billion, largely the result of higher exports to the European Union, while imports from non-U.S. countries increased 1.3 percent to $15 billion, the report said.
