CEO departures slow down in November

CHICAGO, Dec. 7 (UPI) -- For the year to date 1,095 chief executive officers have left their jobs at U.S. companies, a private research firm said Wednesday.

Challenger, Gray & Christmas said a low number of CEO departures in November kept the year to date total 2.8 percent lower than the 1,127 CEO departures January through November of 2010.

Just 82 CEOs left their jobs in November, a 12-month low, Challenger, Gray & Christmas said.

For November, 19 CEOs departed jobs in the healthcare sector, the most of any group. For the year, 175 CEOs in the healthcare industry have left their jobs.

In November, 23 CEOs resigned, 17 retired, 13 stepped down and 13 others found work in another company.

Three executives lost their jobs in November because their firms went bankrupt while two lost their jobs due to a merger or acquisition. One left for health concerns. One left due to a scandal and one left due to pressure from the company's board of directors, data show.
