Crude settles in afternoon trading

NEW YORK, Nov. 28 (UPI) -- An early crude oil run toward $100 per barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange faded by Monday afternoon, splitting from a stock markets rally that held.

Equities soared early on Wall Street and stayed strong though the trading session. January light sweet crude opened at $97.50 a barrel and followed suit, climbing to $100.74 only to fall back to $97.56 in afternoon trading.

Home heating oil shed 0.82 cents to $2.9745. Henry Hub natural gas was off 0.73 cents at $3.55 per British thermal unit.

At the gas pump, AAA reported unleaded gasoline prices averaged $3.295 per gallon, up from $3.30 Sunday.
