Gold gives up less than 1 percent

NEW YORK, Nov. 25 (UPI) -- Gold prices lost 0.84 percent Friday as equities closed lower on a half-day trading on Wall Street and the dollar index rose 0.7 percent.

On the Comex division of the New York Mercantile Exchange, gold gave up $14.40 to reach $1,684.40. Silver lost 83 cents to fall to $31.12 per ounce.

West Texas Intermediate crude oil added 31 cents to $96.48 per barrel.

The euro fell to $1.3224 from late Thursday's $1.3347. Against the yen, the dollar rose to 77.74 yen from 77.12 yen.

The dollar was higher in all major markets of Europe and in most of Asia.

The British pound fell to $1.5443 from Wednesday's $1.5494. Against the Hong Kong dollar, the U.S. standard fell to 7.7962 HKD from 7.7967 HKD.

The dollar rose to 1.0503 Canadian from 1.0469 Canadian. The Australian dollar fell to $0.969 from Wednesday's $0.9734.
