Michaels Stores recall glass vases

WASHINGTON, Nov. 19 (UPI) -- The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced a voluntary recall of 28,000 Ashland glass vases sold exclusively at Michaels Stores

The vases were imported from China by Michaels Stores Inc. of Irving, Tex. and sold from January 2008 through October 2011 for about $20.

The glass vases are so fragile they can break by just being picked up, the commission said.

The firm has received four reports of the vase shattering, causing lacerations in each of the incidents.

One person required surgery, while two required stitches.

The vases are rectangular and made of clear glass. They measure 12 inches tall, 8 inches wide and 2.5 inches deep.

Consumers were advised to return the vase to a Michaels Arts & Crafts store for a full refund.

Consumer can call 800-642-4235 for information.
