Ford sues former executive over new job

DEARBORN, Mich., Nov. 14 (UPI) -- Ford Motor Co. is pursuing a former executive in court for taking a job with a rival, court papers say.

In a lawsuit filed in Wayne County Circuit Court in Detroit, Ford says former marketing executive Martin Collins violated term of his employment contract by taking a job at Gulf States Toyota, where proprietary information could be shared, the Detroit Free Press reported Monday.

Collins' attorney Elizabeth Hardy said, her client "will not be engaged in business activities competitive with Ford and will not be interacting with Gulf States Toyota, at least until the non-compete issue is resolved to its satisfaction."

Technically, Collins works for the Friedkin Group, an investment firm that owns Gulf States Toyota, his lawyer said.

Ford is seeking to prevent Collins from assuming his new responsibilities. It is also seeing $25,000 in damages, the Free Press said.
