Arctic Cat recalls 1,384 ATVs

WASHINGTON, Nov. 12 (UPI) -- Arctic Cat Inc., of Thief River Falls, Minn., is recalling 1,384 all terrain vehicles due to a crash hazard caused by steering problems, regulators said.

The steering tie-rod on all 2011 and some 2012 model year Arctic Cat All Terrain vehicles can bend, resulting in a loss of control, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said.

The recall involves all 2011 Arctic Cat XC 450 ATVs and some 2012 Arctic Cat XC 450 ATVs.

Recalled 2012 model year ATVs can be identified by the last six numerals of the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) in the following ranges: 6V0101 through 6V0178 and 700101 through 700230.

The VIN is located on the lower front frame tube below the front bumper.

The words "Arctic Cat" appears on each side of the cowl, while the model number "450 XC" appears on the front center of the cowl.

The vehicles were sold nationwide since February 2011 for between $6,500 and $6,900.

Consumers were advised to stop using these ATVs and contact their local Arctic Cat ATV dealer to schedule a free repair.
