Cool weather gives sales a kick

WASHINGTON, Nov. 8 (UPI) -- U.S. sales receipts rose 1 percent in the week ending Saturday with seasonal sales helped by cooler temperatures, a national trade group said.

The International Council of Shopping Centers said, "a blast of colder weather helped propel seasonal sales on a week-over-week basis, but year-over-year sales momentum still slowed a tad."

Sales compared to the same week a year earlier rose 2.7 percent.

Weather Trends International said national temperatures for the week were 2.1 degrees Fahrenheit cooler than the same week of 2010 and 1.8 degrees cooler than the long-term average for the week.
