Oil prices slide on Greek vote

NEW YORK, Nov. 1 (UPI) -- Crude oil prices dropped under $92 per barrel Tuesday following Greece's announcement it would put an international bailout effort up for a referendum.

The vote in Greece could pull the rug out from under months of negotiations that culminated Thursday in a rescue package that included $180 billion in new loans to keep Greece from falling into default.

Should voters in Greece turn the bailout down, it would likely topple the current administration in Athens, end Greece's membership in the eurozone and send the euro into disarray.

On the New York Mercantile Exchange, West Texas Intermediate crude oil for December delivery shed 59 cents to $91.60 per barrel.

Home heating oil shed 0.94 cents to $3.0285 per gallon. Reformulated blendstock gasoline dropped 0.53 cents to $2.6191 per gallon.

Henry Hub natural gas prices lost 1.1 cents to reach $3.77 per million British thermal units.

At the pump, the national average price of unleaded gasoline fell to $3.437 per gallon from Monday's $3.443, AAA said.
