Harper Trucks recalls 292,000 hand trucks

WASHINGTON, Oct. 29 (UPI) -- Harper Trucks of Wichita, Kan., is recalling 292,000 hand trucks with overinflated tires that can explode, a consumer product watchdog group said.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said an exploding tire can result in injury to bystanders.

The recall involves upright hand trucks that have "Harper Truck" printed on a sticker attached to the frame. The recalled items include model numbers K52K16, JEDTK1935P, 51TK19, BKTAK19 and PGCSK19BLK.

The hand trucks were sold at Home Depot from September 2008 through March 2009 and Sam's Club from January 1993 through January 2002 for between $28 and $42.

Consumers were advised to stop using the recalled hand trucks and contact Harper Trucks for a free repair kit that includes either lock washers to secure the four bolts on the 3-piece, metal/chrome plated wheels or new design replacement tires.
